JISC RSC London has appointed current Senior Adviser Graciano Soares as its new Manager. Having been at RSC London since 2005, Graciano stresses that:
“The RSCs have shown what agencies such as ours can achieve with limited resources but with the freedom to identify and respond to the needs of learning providers at a regional level. Since thier inception, the RSCs have proven to be the most adaptable support organisation and have consistently performed strongly year on year. We play a vital role in bringing people and organisations together to share best practice and discuss strategic orientation.”
With a strong customer focus, Graciano would like to “ensure that our supported learning providers and key partners perceive RSC London as the first point of contact in the region for free and impartial advice and guidance on issues related to the use of technology, both in business administration and in teaching and learning.”
Hosted in the University of London Computer Centre, JISC RSC London is one of thirteen Regional Support Centres across the UK and part of JISC Advance, an affiliation that has strengthened our knowledge base and the support we can offer to the region. There are ten people in the team, most from educational or technological backgrounds and whom our providers now know by first name. Graciano says: “Each of us has a strong sense of the need of our providers. I am honoured to have been part of this team for so long and to have gained the opportunity to lead a group of such knowledgeable and skilled people.”
Time to plan the way ahead
“One key task for us this year will be to offer leaders of London's learning providers a free and impartial forum to discuss their priorities for technology. The aim is to combine the expertise and experience of those who have travelled further in their technology journey to help others identify ways of achieving strategic objectives through the effective use of technology, without losing sight of development and innovation.”
Graciano has taken leadership of the RSC London just at the planning stage for next year’s activities. Let us know about your technology priorities for the coming year: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/fp_consultation_2010-11.
Delegates from colleges, training organisations and partner agencies from across London came together for our 2010 end of year event, Thriving in Times of Change, and to focus on how to face the future.
From discussion groups during the day the message was clear:
Learning provider organisations must aim to do more than just survive - they will thrive through adapting and collaborating.
