Goodenough College, 10th June 2008
With personalisation still very hot on the national agenda, the focus of this event was to help learning providers to examine the issues around e-portfolios, their application and use to enhance and support a customised learner experience. The event provided a forum for discussion and dialogue between delegates and presenters.
A collaboration work between RSCs London and Eastern, the day began with a welcome by Bernard Aghedo, RSC London and Catherine Bone, RSC Eastern. This was followed by an interractive workshop facilitated by Lisa Gray and Helen Richardson from the JISC.

Lisa opened the workshop by giving an overview of JISC activity on e-Portfolio, setting out the policy context and other drivers for the case for e-Portfolios. Supported by Helen, they had delegates in groups to discuss and reflect on some key points of the presentation and to offer some suggestions to certain of the strategic issues around e-Portfolios. For more on the presentation, see the resources section below.

Barbara Plimsaul, Employer Engagement Manager at Richmond Upon Thames College shared on their experience of evaluating an e-Portfolio and the criteria they followed. Punctuated with humour, Barbara told of her background and journey from being reluctant use information technology to now leading a college-wide project to use an e-Portfolio system. Barbara's full presentation is at the resources section below.

James Ballard, Learning Technologist at the University of London Computer Centre presented on e-Portofolios as a platform to support and deliver personalisation and e-learning. He introduced the 'Personalisation Model' and how e-Portfolios along with the other key elements was at the heart of the model. James also spoke about the functional aspects of an e-Portfolio and interested the audience with the work that ULCC was doing on e-Portfolios based on the Mahara Project. Fiona Mylchreest, Quality and ILT Development Manager, Easton College presented on their use of Moodle VLE as an e-Portfolio. Following a journey that saw them evaluate both off the shelf and open source offerings of e-Portfolios, Fiona and the team decided that it was best to use their Moodle VLE based on their vision, environment and context in which the system would be used. Fiona's full presentation is at the resources section below.

Colin Dalziel, Pebble Learning, presented and demonstrated the PebblePad e-Portfolio system. Colin gave a useful generic definition of e-Portfolios outlining the key features of the such a system. He told delegates that information held in such a system may be for the purposes of the 8 A's that he suggested. He also spoke about the barriers to the use of e-Portfolios, the issues and solutions. Being very generous, he offered free trial accounts of PebblePad e-Portfolio to delegates! Colin's full presentation is in the resources section below.
