Organised by Tom Roper, Chair of the London and South East Circle, CoFHE, this event attracted over 50 delegates, mainly from London and the South East.
Tom Roper welcomed delegates and introduced the day. Graciano Soares from the JISC RSC London gave a brief overview of the support the RSC provides to the lifelong learning sector and the relevance of the toolkit to the RSC London agenda that has a strong focus on institutional development. He invited delegates to share ideas as to how the RSC could further support the network.

It was a half-day event that featured presentations by Dr Andrew Eynon, Library Resource Manager, from Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, who is also one of the toolkit authors and Collette Xavier, from CoLRic. These presentations introduced different aspects of the toolkit and highlighted its importance at a time when being able to evidence and celebrate the quality of the work carried out by LRS is becoming increasingly necessary.
Dr Andrew Eynon's presentation looked at some of the factors taken into account in the toolkit design. In particular, he focused on how it aims to address the key questions in the Ofsted Common Inspection Framework. Dr Andrew explained that "the framework has been written in a descriptive style to show to LR Services what a grade 1 institution might look like".

Collette Xavier focused on the CoLRiC Peer Accreditation Scheme that provides Learning Resources Centres with a robust holistic evaluation of their services. Particularly interesting was to see how the scheme takes a number of Government agendas into account and aims to address the very issues they identify, such as Every Child Matters, Equality and Disability, while playing a vital role in the institution's self-assessment and its light-touch inspection.

The event was also an opportunity for some hands-on work with the toolkit. Delegates were split into five smaller groups to look at the five sections of the toolkit in detail.During the group task delegates focused on individual questions in order to help develop a better understanding of how to use the toolkit.

The event was seen by many as a great networking opportunity, a chance to get a few ideas from other colleagues and to get to know about the toolkit. Hard copies of the toolkit are being produced at the moment. Delegates should receive theirs as soon as they start to be distributed.
